Born from a legacy that dates back to the Union of Gold Coast Students (UGCS), our roots are deeply entwined with the pursuit of excellence, advocacy, and the empowerment of Ghanaian students globally.

Our Heritage

Inspired by the rich history of NUGS, which was instrumental in the drive towards Ghana’s independence and the shaping of student leadership and activism, NUGS-USA carries forward this torch of empowerment and representation in the United States. The formation of NUGS, once known as UGCS, was a cornerstone in mobilizing student voices against colonial rule, under the guidance of visionary leaders like Kwame Nkrumah. This spirit of activism, responsibility, and patriotism that led to the establishment of key educational institutions like the National Service Scheme (NSS) and the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GET Fund) is the bedrock upon which NUGS-USA is built.
